Forsyth Technical Community College, also known as FTCC, is a public 2-year community college. The school is located in Winston-Salem, in the state of North Carolina. FTCC serves the counties of Forsyth and Stokes. The college is known as one of the largest schools in the North Carolina Community College System. Forsyth Tech receives an average enrollment of over 11,000 credit students with more than 31,000 Continuing Education and Corporate students.
The college first opened in 1960 as the Winston-Salem and Forsyth County Industrial Education Center. Among the first programs offered there were Machine shop training, automotive mechanics, electronics, and practical nursing. Then in 1963 the North Carolina Department of Community Colleges was established. With the establishment, the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Industrial Education Center got passed to the new community college system of North Carolina. In 1964 the school changed its name to Forsyth Technical Institute, and the school started offering Adult Enrichment courses for the local community.
In 1965 the school established the Adult Basic Education program. In 1972, the nursing program was added along with several different programs. In 1987, the school changed its name once again to the Forsyth Tech Community College. Throughout the 90’s the school expanded its curriculum as well as its campus, with several structures and satellite campuses added to the college. The school currently has 8 campus locations, with plans to add more in the future.
FTCC offers more than 200 Curriculum Programs, more than 70 Associate in Applied Science Degrees, 20 College Transfer Degrees including Associate in Arts, Fine Arts, and Science; close to 40 Diplomas, over 70 Certificates and 32 Programs that are available entirely online. Students can either use the school’s transfer program and complete a 4 year bachelor’s degree with other affiliated schools, or take their degree to join the workforce immediately.
